Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Clamp, Two-Prong Extension, Large, Dual Adjust, 9in OAL. Nickel-plated zinc alloy clamp has high tensile strength and corrosion resistance. Fully enclosed stainless steel springs provide smooth operation. Two-prong clamps are available in single and dual adjustment. The medium clamp has a 1 1/2” (38mm) maximum grip size with a 1/2” (13mm) O.D. extension arm. The large clamp has a 2 1/2” (64mm) maximum grip size with a 5/8” (16mm) O.D. extension arm. Complete with removable vinyl and fiberglass sleeve covers.

The top end has a standard taper outer joint and the lower end has an inner drip tip joint. Hose connections have an O.D. of 10mm at the middle serration.

Condenser, 45/50 Joint, Reflux, 315 x 100mm. Compact high efficiency reflux condenser employs a double wall thimble shape bulb sealed into the outer jacket. Serrated hose connections for water connection extend through the outer bulb and have an O.D. of 10mm at the middle serration. While the overall height of this condenser is only 210-215mm, it has the efficiency of a standard 400mm Liebig or West condenser.
